WHY?

For the first time in a long while I checked my Facebook account and got flooded with notifications: pictures and posts of some of the people I used to know getting married/gotten married  or engaged  and I started to wonder why people do things the way they do them.

I have been reading a book that has made me question most of the beliefs and traditions that I've grown up with. Honestly, it has made me unlearn a lot of ways I was accustomed to. There's an example about a dinner recipe where you find a family has been cutting off the turkey legs and cooking them separately and putting the rest of the meat in the oven and they've been doing this for the longest time. So a visitor asked why they do that and they said, it's been a tradition in their family since their great grandmother's time. But the visitor asked again "why?"

This family thought about this and realized they didn't really know why. All they knew is that it has been a thing in their family for a very long time. When they later asked around, they found out it was because their great grandmother's pot was small and the sides had to be cut for it to fit!!

Now, have you ever wondered why your family does things in a certain way or why certain groups of people have certain cultures and ways of life or do you just roll with it?

What is the BASIS of each custom or belief?

So before you start defending a certain topic or way or life, ask yourself why is it that you are so quick to fight for it or maybe against it. What is it that you're standing for exactly?
